Located near the southern end of the Hangzhou Bay Cross-Sea Bridge, Hangzhou Bay National Wetland Park is a lush wetland park close to Ningbo. It features vast mudflats, extensive reed marshes, and wastelands, attracting numerous migratory birds for habitation and reproduction each year, making for impressive photographs. A scene from the movie ‘Search’, directed by Chen Kaige, featuring Gao Yuanyuan, was filmed here, and fans of the movie might enjoy exploring the filming locations.
The park operates on a single-ticket system, which includes electric carts and boats. There are two tour routes, A and B; Route A starts with a ride and then a boat trip, while Route B is the reverse, offering the same sights to enjoy. The first impression of the wetland park is an abundance of greenery. Following Route B, you’ll pass by a lotus pond and traverse a winding open-air pathway. Through transparent fish tanks on both sides of the path, you can see fish swimming leisurely beside you, reminiscent of an aquarium. Not far ahead is the boat dock, where you can take a gondola-like boat and meander through the wetland’s waterways, occasionally spotting egrets and cormorants playing on the lake, presenting a beautiful scene. The entire boat trip lasts about ten minutes, and boats are readily available, offering great convenience. After disembarking, a short walk leads to the elk park, where small animals graze on an island close by, exuding a wild charm. Crossing a sandy path reveals a lotus pond and a wooden zigzag bridge amidst the reeds, where Gao Yuanyuan’s classic smile in ‘Search’ was captured. The reed marshes are particularly beautiful in autumn, with a ‘Search’ still at the entrance of the wooden bridge. Women might want to take a photo in the same pose as a memento. The love cabin from the movie and some temporary sets are nearby for those interested in exploring. Beyond the circular Butterfly Island, you can take a sightseeing cart to the Migratory Bird Museum, which displays various bird specimens behind transparent glass, accompanied by textual and pictorial information on migratory routes and habits. The museum’s first floor features a 6D cinema, offering an interactive experience project themed around bird migration (50 yuan), allowing visitors to start from Siberia and follow the migratory bird ‘Jiajia’ through mountains and seas to the warm and comfortable Hangzhou Bay. Cycling in the wetland park is also a leisurely and pleasant activity. Bicycle rentals are available within the park, with a deposit of 100 yuan and rental rates of 10 yuan/hour for a single bike and 20 yuan/hour for a tandem. The Bridge Eco-Farm opposite the wetland park is a great eco-tourism spot, suitable for family outings or trips with children, and can be included in the same itinerary.
