The Hangzhou Botanical Garden is located in the northwest of the West Lake. The entire botanical garden is filled with green plants, like a huge open-air plant museum. Usually, people come here to enjoy the scenery, take photos, and breathe fresh air during holidays. During the flower exhibition of exploring plum blossoms at Lingfeng in early spring, it is a relatively lively time in the botanical garden.
Touring Tips: The botanical garden has two entrances, north and south. After seeing the large archway of ‘Hangzhou Botanical Garden’ and walking all the way inside, turning right leads to the north gate (Yuquan Gate), and turning left is the south gate. Both sides can be entered by car, and there are paid parking lots. You need to walk inside the garden. Although there are many signs indicating tourist routes, it is still relatively easy to get lost in the large green background. Fortunately, this place is just suitable for strolling around casually. It takes about two to three hours. Just set aside enough time.

Sights in Four Seasons: The warm and humid climate in Hangzhou makes the botanical garden have scenery to see in all four seasons. The park is also divided according to different types of plants, such as the maple and rhododendron garden and peach blossom garden suitable for visiting in spring (February – March); the osmanthus and crape myrtle garden in autumn; and exploring plum blossoms at Lingfeng in early spring (January – February).

There is also a ‘Hundred Herbs Garden’ on the east side of the office building, where more than a thousand kinds of medicinal plants including ‘Eight Zhejiang Specialties’ are planted. In the bamboo area in the northeast corner of the botanical garden, there is a large bamboo forest, which is especially secluded in summer. Among all the landscapes, the Lingfeng plum blossom exploration area on the west side of the botanical garden is worth seeing.

The large-scale flower exhibition held here in early spring every year can be regarded as a major event in Hangzhou. At this time, plum blossom bonsai and various spring flowers compete in blooming, and you can take very good photos. In addition to ornamental plants, there is a rectangular spring pool in Yuquan near the landscape garden on the north side of the botanical garden. It is full of fat grass carp and red and yellow carp.

It is a good place for watching fish and taking a rest, and it is also very popular with children. It lives up to the beautiful name of ‘Fish Paradise’ inscribed by Dong Qichang under the eaves. Nearby, the Han Meilin Art Museum can be visited to see many works of Mr. Han Meilin. The first floor is filled with various metal exhibits, and the second floor is an art exhibition. If you are interested in art, you might as well go in and visit.
