Haogu Tower, one of the ancient seven towers and eight temples of Jiaxing, is named after its location by the city moat, whose water curves like a stock. Situated in the Nanhu Fishing Village on the west side of Nanhu Lake, the tower stands at a height of 63.36 meters, with seven floors and a construction area of 600 square meters. The tower adopts a pavilion-style design with surrounding corridors, following the architectural style of the Song Dynasty. On each corner of every floor, an exquisite Buddha statue is placed, with an ancient wind chime hanging beneath, creating the poetic scene of “shadows swaying on glass, wind chimes high above willows.” The tower’s spire is a rare pure copper gilded construction in China, consuming three kilograms of pure gold. Haogu Tower is the only tower in Jiaxing that can be climbed, with 179 wooden steps spiraling up, offering a panoramic view of Nanhu Lake and the entire city of Jiaxing. Opening hours are subject to the day’s operational status (the merchant did not provide specific times, only mentioning they start around eight or nine in the morning and end between four to four-thirty in the afternoon).
