Located on the northwest side of Nanjing University Library, there stands a Spanish-style villa that always catches the attention of passing students with its bright yellow exterior and elegant structure. However, few know its history; this is actually the private residence of He Yingqin. It was once historically known as the famous Douji Zha No. 4, the site of the Douji Zha where high-ranking officials and nobles of the Southern Dynasties indulged in cockfighting for pleasure.
Later, He Yingqin took a liking to it and purchased it at a high price from its original owner. The entire building is surrounded by pine and cypress trees, exuding a low-key and elegant charm. The top is adorned with traditional Chinese blue-glazed tiles, while the walls are simply and generously painted yellow. The central courtyard is lush with green grass and well-arranged flowers and trees, which inevitably leads to admiration for He Yingqin’s excellent choice of location. Today, He’s Mansion is privately used by Nanjing University for foreign affairs offices and to receive distinguished guests, with no entry allowed for outsiders.He Yingqin’s Mansion
