Heyuan was built in the 33rd year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1907 AD). It is named ‘Heyuan’ because Yu Yue wrote the plaque of ‘Xiehe Thatched Cottage’. Heyuan has a total area of 3134 square meters. It is small, compact, simple and elegant. The garden gate faces south. There are five rooms in the foyer. After leaving the foyer, there is a long corridor in the northeast corner. The corridor runs through the whole garden from south to north. To the west of the corridor are the four-sided hall and the main hall. A pool is dug between the two halls. Stones are piled up around the pool. Flowers and trees such as winter jasmine, Michelia figo, lilac, begonia, osmanthus, oleander, crape myrtle, wintersweet and evergreen trees such as pine and cypress are planted to form the main scenic courtyard of the garden. To the west of the pool is a trapezoidal pavilion with double eaves, which is connected to the main hall by a winding corridor. The long corridor is tortuous and charming. It forms several small courtyards with the courtyard wall. Interspersed with miscellaneous flowers and tall bamboos, it has rich layers and is the essence of the whole garden. Opening hours: Open all day throughout the year. The exterior is open all day.
