The Hong Liangji and Hong Shen Memorial Hall is located at No. 20, Dong Shizi Lane, Tianning District, Changzhou City. It is adjacent to the No. 24 Middle School and Tianning Temple. Facing south, it has a construction area of 243 square meters. Hong Liangji was a litterateur and Confucian scholar in Changzhou in the Qing Dynasty. In his early years, he was a staff member of Bi Yuan, governor of Shaanxi Province.

Bi Yuan gave money to purchase No. 20, West Shizi Lane as his former residence. Hong Liangji was also known as Gengsheng Jushi in his later years. After living at home for ten years and writing books and giving lectures, he died in 1809. His sixth-generation grandson, Hong Shen, a pioneer of Chinese modern drama and film, was born in this house on December 31, 1894. On December 26, 1987, Hong Liangji’s former residence was announced as a cultural relic protection unit in Changzhou City.

Due to road reconstruction, it was moved eastward to the current location. The project was completed at the end of 1994 and officially opened to the public on June 1, 1995. The total exhibition area is 132 square meters. In the exhibition room, there is a set of stone inscriptions of Hong Liangji’s epitaph and books and other relics of Hong Shen. Currently, exhibitions on ‘Hong Liangji’s Life and Academic Achievements’ and ‘Hong Shen’s Life and Art Achievements’ are planned.

Opening hours: Open from 9:00 to 17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year.
