The Hongshan Taibo Scenic Area is located in the eastern suburbs of Wuxi. It is the tomb of Taibo, the first king of the State of Wu. It is divided into two parts: the Wu Culture Square and the Hongshan Taibo Tomb. Taibo gave up the throne and brought the advanced Central Plains civilization to the Wu area. His deeds are admired. Although there are not many tourists in the scenic area, descendants of the kings of Wu sometimes come here to worship. At the southern gate of the scenic area is the Wu Culture Square. There are some sculptures related to Taibo on the square. On weekdays, tourists fly kites on the square. Every year on April 9th, the Taibo sacrificial ceremony – China (Wuxi) Wu Culture Festival is held on the square. Wu clansmen from home and abroad come here to worship their ancestors. To the north of the square is the Hongshan Taibo Tomb. The stone archway at the entrance has five gates and six pillars, which is very magnificent. Entering the gate, there are stone figures and stone beasts on both sides of the divine path. In the imperial stele pavilion on the east side of the divine path are verses inscribed by Emperor Jianwen of the Ming Dynasty when he fled. In the imperial stele pavilion on the west side is the sacrificial text sent by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty to sacrifice to Taibo. From the divine path to the north are the Yangzhi Pavilion with three floors, the crescent pool, and the four-sided stele of the Ming Dynasty in turn. At the northern end is the tomb of Taibo. To the north of Taibo’s tomb is the Hongshan Mountain running from east to west. You can also climb mountains and enjoy spring outings here in spring.
