Hou Mountain, a quarry site remnant, is renowned for its stone scenery, with the essence being the ‘Chessboard Stone’. This stone stands over 20 meters high, topped with three horizontal stones, and is named after the legend of two immortals playing chess here.

Moreover, Hou Mountain has served as a filming location for TV series and films such as the sequel to ‘Journey to the West’, ‘King Goujian of Yue’, and ‘The Myth’. In addition to the Chessboard Stone, there are over twenty main attractions, including Cloud Stone, Elephant Trunk Drinking Water, and One Cave Heaven, which can be enjoyed while strolling around.

Hou Mountain is not very high in altitude, and the entire scenic area can be toured in about 2 hours. At the summit, one can overlook the surrounding pastoral scenery and clearly observe the appearance of the Cloud Stone. It is said that this place was one of the important bases for King Goujian of Yue to achieve his national restoration, and it was also the site of ancient Yue celadon kilns during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. Additionally, it was where the ancestral home of the patriotic poet Lu You from the Song Dynasty was built, and his family lived here for three generations.

The long history has left numerous traces of celebrities from various dynasties, all displayed on cliff inscriptions. The opening hours are from 08:00 to 16:30 all year round.
