WeChat, along with Alipay, is one of the most popular payment platforms. It’s an ideal choice because creating a WeChat account doesn’t require an ID card. Additionally, from street vendors to large shopping malls, everyone accepts WeChat Pay, making life more convenient. Apart from vendor payments, you can also easily transfer money from your WeChat account to any friend’s account.
For instance, when your friend pays for you at a restaurant, you can make an instant transfer via WeChat. In this article, let’s explain the step-by-step process of transferring funds to another WeChat account.
What Do You Need for Remittance?
Before transferring money between WeChat accounts, you need the following:
- A personal WeChat account.
- You can download and install the WeChat app from any mobile app store.
- You have added the recipient as a friend in your account.
- A verified WeChat Pay account.
- You have linked a bank card or have sufficient balance in your WeChat account.
Keep in mind that even if you have an account from another country, you cannot use WeChat Pay for international transfers. If someone sends you a red envelope, you can only use your balance to pay merchants or recharge your phone. You need to verify your account with a bank card in order to transfer red envelope funds to your bank account.
How to Transfer Money on WeChat?
Now, let’s walk through the process step-by-step.
First, open the WeChat app and select the friend you want to send money to in the “Chats” section.
After selecting the recipient, click the “+” button next to the input field.
You will see several options, then click on “Transfer”.
On the next screen, enter the amount you want to send to the selected person.
You can also add a note for the recipient to explain the purpose of the transfer.
For example, we entered 6000 RMB and added the note “Insurance”.
Finally, click the “Transfer” button.
WeChat will automatically select the payment method based on the available balance. If you have enough balance, it will use your WeChat balance. Otherwise, it will use your linked bank card for payment.
If you have multiple cards or want to add a new payment card, click the payment options shown in the image.
You will see all the linked bank cards, your WeChat balance, and an option to add a new card.
