Huagangguanyu is located on the south side of the West Lake, near the entrance of Su Causeway. This was once a private residence. Because the stream from Huajiashan flows through and into the West Lake, it is called ‘Huagang’ and is one of the ‘Ten Scenes of the West Lake’. The more famous feature in the park is the groups of red carp in the Red Fish Pond. There are always adults and children feeding the fish with feed and breadcrumbs, having a great time.
The park has three main entrances. The south gate is on Nanshan Road, the west gate is located on Yanggong Causeway, and you can also walk to Su Causeway by going north. Entering the park from Su Causeway, the more noticeable thing is the stele pavilion on the right. The four characters ‘Huagangguanyu’ are the imperial handwriting of Emperor Kangxi. Almost all tourists who come here will take a commemorative photo of ‘been here’ here. When there are many people, they even have to line up. Walking past a large lawn and arriving at the Red Fish Pond, this is a more concentrated area for tourists. Standing on the curved bridge over the pond, you will see countless red carp. There is a small shop selling fish feed nearby. As long as there is feed thrown into the water, a large group of carp will swarm over. To the west of the Red Fish Pond is the Peony Garden. There are not only many peonies planted here, but also peonies that look very similar to peonies. Because peonies only have a flowering period of about a week in April each year, and the flowering period of peonies is long, so it is used as a’substitute’. Following the winding cobblestone road, you can reach the dense forest area and Huagang. This is an area of trees and artificial rivers. You can stroll around or sit down and rest for a while. This place is not far from the west gate of Huagangguanyu. Near the gate, there is the famous Zhiweiguan in Hangzhou where you can have a meal.Opening hours: Open all day throughout the year.
