Huagangguanyu is located on the south side of West Lake, near the entrance of Su Causeway. It was once a private residence. As the stream from Huajiashan flows through and into West Lake, it is called ‘Flower Harbor’. It is one of the ‘Ten Scenes of West Lake’.
The park has three main entrances. The south gate is on Nanshan Road. The west gate is located on Yanggong Causeway. Going north, you can also reach Su Causeway. Entering the park from Su Causeway, the more noticeable thing is the stele pavilion on the right. The four characters ‘Huagangguanyu’ are the imperial handwriting of Emperor Kangxi. Almost all tourists here will take a commemorative photo of ‘been here’ here. When there are many people, they even have to line up.
After walking through a large lawn and arriving at the Red Fish Pond, this is an area where tourists are relatively concentrated. Standing on the winding bridge over the pond, you will see countless red carp. There is a small shop selling fish feed nearby. As long as there is feed thrown into the water, a large group of carp will swarm over.
The more famous feature in the park is the groups of red carp in the Red Fish Pond. Adults and children always feed the fish with feed and breadcrumbs, having a great time.
To the west of the Red Fish Pond is the Peony Garden. Not only are there many peonies planted here, but there are also peony-like Chinese herbaceous peonies. Since peonies only have a flowering period of about a week in April each year and the flowering period of Chinese herbaceous peonies is long, so it is used as a’substitute’.Following the winding cobblestone path, you can reach the dense forest area and Flower Harbor. This is an area with trees and artificial rivers. You can stroll around casually or sit down and rest for a while. This place is not far from the west gate of Huagangguanyu. Near the gate, there is the famous Zhiweiguan in Hangzhou where you can have a meal.
The opening hours are all year round and open all day.
