Huangfu Mountain

Huangfu Mountain is a National Forest Park and a provincial-level nature reserve located 35 kilometers to the west of Chuzhou City, covering an area of approximately 4000 square meters. Originally named Quting Mountain, it was renamed after the Southern Tang general Huangfu Hui stationed his troops here, hence the name Huangfu Mountain. The main peak, North General Ridge, stands at 399.2 meters and is considered a high peak in Eastern Anhui.

On the summit, there is a beacon tower from the Southern Tang Dynasty, and the existing site features a four-story tower-shaped fire-watching building over 10 meters high, offering a panoramic view from an elevated position. Other major attractions include General Well, Mituo Temple, Jinjia Stream, Happy Forest, and Egret Island. Huangfu Mountain is situated in the subtropical zone with ample rainfall, lush forests, and a forest coverage rate exceeding 95%.

There are 114 species of wild plants, including protected tree species such as ginkgo, yellow sandalwood, and Chinese catalpa. Over 130 species of wild animals inhabit the area, with 26 species under provincial protection, and 127 species of birds, including the spectacular summer heron egrets, which can number in the tens of thousands, and sometimes up to 100,000, making for a grand spectacle. General Well, located not far from the beacon tower on the north slope of North General Ridge, is constructed with stone blocks.

The well has a diameter of about 70 centimeters, is not more than 10 meters deep, and the water surface is about 3 meters from the well opening. It is recorded that this well was dug by Huangfu Hui during his troop stationing at Huangfu Mountain to solve the soldiers’ drinking water issue, hence the name General Well. The water is clear and perennial, with the water depth always maintaining at a certain level.

Even during prolonged droughts, the water level does not drop, and during continuous rainy weather, the water level does not rise. Opening hours are from 07:30 to 17:00 all year round.
