Huangpu Park is adjacent to the Huangpu River on the east, adjacent to the Bund green belt on the south, along Zhongshan No.1 Road on the west, and connected to the Suzhou River on the north. It has had many names such as Foreign Garden, Public Garden, Bridge Park, Waibaidu Park, and Huangpu Beach Park. It was built in 1886. The main buildings in the park are the Monument to People’s Heroes and large relief sculptures. The monument is composed of three granite towers as high as 60 meters, implying that the people’s heroes who have fought bravely and sacrificed their lives for the people’s revolutionary cause in Shanghai since 1840 will be immortal. The relief sculptures around the square are 120 meters long and have a total area of 335 square meters. They are all carved from granite. The seven groups of relief sculptures from left to right in the middle show the revolutionary struggle history of the people of Shanghai from 1840 to 1949. The two wings are decorative garland patterns, symbolizing mourning for revolutionary martyrs. Inside the main entrance of the park is a giant sculpture – Pujiang Tide. The sculpture is surrounded by green shade and blooming flowers. The wisteria trellis corridor behind the sculpture can be used for leisure and rest. The two large green lawns in the park are planted with flourishing magnolias, camellias, osmanthus and other flowers. Open all year round and open all day.
