Huguo Suilian Wang Temple, also known as the ‘Seventh Lord’ Temple, is a local deity temple built in memory of an upright official from the Ming Dynasty. It is said that during the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty, there was a drought in the Jiaxing area, with starving people everywhere. At that time, there was a gentleman with the surname Jin, who was the seventh in his family, known as Jin Qi. He was a minor official in charge of transporting imperial grain and could not bear to see the people starve, so he distributed the imperial grain for disaster relief. However, he knew that releasing imperial grain privately was a crime against the state law, so he committed suicide by jumping into the river at Yan Ta Wan. The local people, to commemorate this good official, raised funds to build the ‘Seventh Lord Temple’ to enshrine the Seventh Lord and his wife. After the Seventh Lord committed suicide, the court found out the truth and posthumously honored him as ‘Liji Hou’, later adding the title ‘Huguo Suilian Wang’, and the Seventh Lord Temple was renamed to ‘Huguo Suilian Wang Temple’. The temple’s entrance opens on the street side, with the front hall newly built and the rear hall essentially restored from its old appearance. Its architecture is very special, with eaves along the front edge of the hall, and the beams and rafters are meticulously designed and arched. A row of wooden floor-to-ceiling windows is set on the threshold of the hall, which is a common temple decoration. Every year, on the 4th day of the 4th lunar month, which is the birthday of the Seventh Lord, a temple fair is held here, which is very lively.
