Huiji Mountain Scenic Area is located in the southern part of Shaoxing City, encompassing three major scenic spots: Dayu Mausoleum, Bai Niao Yuan (Bird Garden), and Xianglu Peak. It is said that this place is where Dayu, a legendary hero in Chinese history, got married, held his coronation, and his tomb is situated here. Xianglu Peak, connected to Huiji Mountain, is known for its peculiar rocks, and a Zen temple is built on the mountain top, which is quite spectacular. Bai Niao Yuan is an excellent spot for bird watching. To visit Huiji Mountain Scenic Area, one must first reach the main entrance on the west side of the scenic area. After walking through Dayu Mausoleum and Bai Niao Yuan, return to the entrance, where a shuttle bus will take visitors to the entrance of Xianglu Peak. From there, one must walk up the mountain. The Dayu Mausoleum primarily consists of cultural buildings commemorating the life of Dayu, the founding monarch. Outside the scenic area, there are relief walls depicting Dayu’s life, sculptures symbolizing imperial power, and altars for worshipping Dayu. Inside, visitors can find Dayu’s tomb, sacred paths, main halls, stele forests, and other attractions worth visiting. At the end of the main hall, there is a statue of Dayu on the mountain top, visible from afar, making it a spectacular sight. Walking to the end of the Dayu Mausoleum leads to Bai Niao Yuan, also known as the Bird Paradise. The Bird Paradise is divided into two areas: the entrance area and the main park. It features a pigeon square, bird art sculptures, a natural history museum of birds, and a raptor breeding area, among other attractions. The main park covers an area of over 20,000 square meters, with dense trees and garden-style architecture, housing various species of birds such as peacocks, black swans, and ostriches. There are also Swan Lake, Pine and Crane Garden, Ostrich Garden, Mandarin Duck Gully, Acacia Valley, viewing platforms, and numerous bird-watching and leisure areas, making it an ideal place for bird watching and entertainment. After visiting Dayu Mausoleum and Bird Paradise, return to the scenic area entrance, where a shuttle bus will take visitors to Xianglu Peak, a 2-kilometer drive. One must walk up the mountain to reach Xianglu Peak, which has an elevation of 354 meters. The peak’s rocks are uniquely shaped, resembling an incense burner, and the mountain is filled with peculiar rocks, offering a unique landscape. During rainy and cloudy weather, the area is often shrouded in mist, resembling the smoke from an incense burner. There are over 1,700 stone steps leading up the mountain, and at the top, one can find a temple with religious buildings such as the Mahavira Hall and the Guanyin Hall, where visitors can pray and seek blessings. Additionally, the air along the way up Xianglu Peak is fresh, providing a respite from the urban smog. From the top of Xianglu Peak, one can enjoy an expansive view, which is also an excellent choice for overlooking the city. The scenic area is open all year round from 08:00 to 17:00.
