This exhibition is titled ‘Individual Structures—The Presence and Absence of Painting’. Let’s first address ‘Individual Structures’, which originates and continues from another exhibition I curated in Taipei this spring, ‘Individual Structures—The Quest of Young Artists’. The reason for reusing the term ‘Individual Structures’ is because I previously wrote: ‘In 1966, New York City hosted what is considered to be the first major exhibition of Western Minimalism, a group show called Primary Structures: Younger American and British Sculptors, featuring artists who later achieved great fame, such as Carl Andre, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, and others. Minimalism was born in the 1960s, a time when artists often emerged ‘collectively’ in a certain school and style.’ The exhibition is open from November 5th to February 18th, with specific business status subject to the daily opening conditions.
