Originally built by Qian Ji, a censor in the Ming Dynasty. The original pavilion has been demolished and a new two-story pavilion was rebuilt in the 1980s. On the first floor, there is a sand table model of Changshu City. The second floor is not open to the public. At the edge of the cliff in front of Jiange, you can overlook Shanghu Lake, a famous scenic spot in Changshu City. Now, in the hall of Jiange, there is a couplet written by Qian Ji and calligraphed by Yan Gongda: ‘The precipitous cliff is split by swords. The dangerous paths of Yique and Yangchang should yield in terms of danger. The heavy lakes are lined up like mirrors. Dongting Lake and Poyang Lake should compete in wonder.’ In addition to this couplet, a new couplet written by Qian Zhonglian has been added in the pavilion: ‘The Sichuan pavilion is majestic. The Buddha throws the potter’s wheel. A corner of the peak is divided from the north of the sword. Shanghu Lake is peerless. People are in the crystal realm. In the mirror, a thousand bun-like moons are reflected.’ The plaques of ‘Jiange’ on the upper and lower levels are inscribed by Jiang Weiqing and Liu Lin respectively. Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:10 to 16:10. Must-see tips: Prepare sufficient water and dry food.
