The Jiangsu Xuzheng Government Office is located where Zhongshan Park is situated, to the north of the bustling pedestrian street in Jiangyin City. The office was built in the 42nd year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1614 AD), serving as the examination place for scholars from eight prefectures and three states. Today, only the ceremonial gate remains, with the rest being modern constructions. For the locals, the park, with its green spaces, ponds, artificial hills, pavilions, and towers, is a place for leisurely walks and exercise. On weekends, it is bustling with people, including elderly people dancing square dances and parents with their children. Zhongshan Park is an open-style park, with the government office’s main gate at the southern end, and buildings aligned along the central north-south axis. At the southern end, there is the ‘Kai Tian Wen Yun’ archway, with a bulletin wall to the east of the archway, where a group of scholar statues stands in front of the list, displaying expressions of joy or sorrow, indicating whether they have passed the examination. Behind the archway is the ceremonial gate. Strolling around the park, you can also visit the ancient wisteria and the Er Hou Ci Shu Chang. To the west of the main hall is the Xue Lang Lake, where you can pay to ride electric bumper boats; to the southeast, there is an amusement park, where visitors with children can enjoy themselves. The park is open all year round, with full-day access.
