The Jiaxing Museum is located on the north side of Zhonghuan South Road in Nanhu New District, south of the city library. The architectural shape is like a ship, implying that historical ships sail from the past to the future. Inside the museum, there are exhibition areas, storage areas, and service areas. The exhibition areas include Jiaxing prehistoric culture – ‘Heyuan’, exhibition of fine cultural relics in the collection – ‘Hezhen’, exhibition hall of famous calligraphy and paintings, exhibition hall of fan art, and temporary exhibition halls.
Among the cultural relics in the collection of Jiaxing Museum, there are stone tools, jade articles, pottery unearthed from Neolithic sites, and cultural relics such as bronze wares, jade articles, and porcelain unearthed from tombs of all dynasties. The calligraphy and painting collections include excellent works of Ming and Qing calligraphers and painters such as Wen Zhengming, Xiang Shengmo, Lan Ying, Jin Nong, Wu Changshuo, Ren Bonian, Xugu, Puhua, and Sha Menghai. Revolutionary cultural relics include the ‘Changle Fort Tablet’ and ‘Branch Road Tablet’ of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, as well as cultural relics left over from the New Fourth Army’s anti-Japanese struggle activities during the Anti-Japanese War. In particular, cultural relics represented by the human head pottery vase from the Songze period in the collection, the plain three-color porcelain ship of the Ming Dynasty, and famous calligraphy and paintings of all dynasties fully reflect the glory of Jiaxing’s ancient civilization and the prosperity of its literary style.Opening hours: Open from Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year from 09:00 to 17:30; closed all day on Monday throughout the year; open from 09:00 to 17:00 on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day.
