Jiaxing Museum is located on the north side of Zhonghuan South Road in Nanhu New District, south of the city library. The architectural shape is a ship, implying that historical ships sail from the past to the future. The museum is divided into exhibition areas, storage areas, and service areas. The exhibition areas include Jiaxing prehistoric culture – ‘Heyuan’, the exhibition of fine cultural relics in the collection – ‘Hezhen’, the exhibition hall of famous calligraphy and paintings, the exhibition hall of fan art, and temporary exhibition halls. Among the cultural relics in the collection of Jiaxing Museum are stone tools, jade articles, and pottery unearthed from Neolithic sites, as well as bronze ware, jade articles, porcelain and other cultural relics unearthed from tombs of all dynasties. The calligraphy and painting collections include masterpieces of Ming and Qing calligraphy and paintings by Wen Zhengming, Xiang Shengmo, Lan Ying, Jin Nong, Wu Changshuo, Ren Bonian, Xugu, Puhua, Sha Menghai and others. Revolutionary cultural relics include the ‘Changle Fort Tablet’ and ‘Branch Road Tablet’ of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, as well as cultural relics left over from the New Fourth Army’s anti-Japanese struggle activities during the Anti-Japanese War. Cultural relics represented by the human-head pottery bottle from the Songze period in the collection, the plain tricolored porcelain ship of the Ming Dynasty, and famous calligraphy and paintings of all dynasties fully reflect the glory of Jiaxing’s ancient civilization and the prosperity of its literary style.
