Jigong’s Former Residence is located at Shiqiantou, Yongning Village, outside the North Gate of Tiantai Ancient City in Zhejiang, the birthplace of the ‘Living Buddha’ Jigong, and a historical and cultural scenic spot in Zhejiang Province. The scenic area consists of three main parts: the double archway at the entrance of Yongning Village and Guanxia Pavilion, Jigong Li’s ancestral home, and Longxi Garden. The residence we see today is a later reconstruction, showcasing a scroll filled with the atmosphere of the Southern Song Dynasty, the architectural style of Eastern Zhejiang, and the layout of the residences of scholar-officials.
Jigong Li’s ancestral home is a ‘three progress and nine bright hall’ style building from the Southern Song Dynasty in Eastern Zhejiang, the place of Jigong’s birth and growth. Inside the residence, there are halls, bedrooms, studies, Buddhist altars, and ancestral halls. The internal furnishings, portraits, pictures, and research materials related to Jigong’s life are displayed, recreating the living conditions of Jigong’s Li family during the Southern Song Dynasty, deepening people’s understanding of the historical Jigong. Longxi Garden is the private garden of Jigong Li’s residence, featuring a pond, a waterside pavilion, a fishing pavilion, a drunken immortal building, a promenade, and Jigong’s pharmacy. The Jigong Buddha Hall in the garden houses a jade statue of Jigong, with a back screen of five hundred Arhat Nanmu group sculptures, serving as a place for the public to worship. Opening hours: 07:30-17:00 all year round. Preferential policies: Children under 1.2 meters (inclusive) and under 6 years old enter for free. Must-see tips: Jigong, whose secular name is Li Xiuyuan (also known as Xiuyuan, Xinyuan), was born in the Southern Song Dynasty and is a descendant of Li Zunxu, the son-in-law of Emperor Zhenzong of Song. The Li family has been a distinguished family in Taiyuan, with generations of officials known for their integrity and Buddhist practices. Jigong grew up by the Zha Creek and studied at Chicheng Mountain. At a young age, he joined the Buddhist faith, first entering Guoqing Temple, receiving full ordination at West Lake Lingyin, and later moving to Jingsici Temple. Known for his pure and clean nature, his eccentric and loose conduct, he helped the weak and the poor, suppressed evil and promoted good, excelled in poetry, wine, and calligraphy, and was known for his extraordinary deeds and divine traces, earning the title ‘Jigong Dian’.Jigong’s Former Residence
