Jing Mountain, located in Jingshan Town, Yuhang District, is the northeastern peak of the Tianmu Mountain Range, named for its two winding paths that spiral up to Tianmu Mountain. With towering ancient trees, layered green bamboo, gurgling springs, and encircling mists, Jing Mountain is an elegant and majestic destination for tourism and summer retreat.
Jing Mountain is known for two main attractions: First is the ancient Tang Dynasty temple, Jingshan Xingsheng Wanshou Chan Temple, which has made Jing Mountain famous worldwide. The temple, established during the Tang Dynasty and flourishing in the Song Dynasty, is the ancestral temple of the Japanese Rinzai Zen sect. Second is the ‘Jingshan Tea Banquet,’ renowned far and wide, and believed to be the origin of Japanese tea ceremony.

The ancient temple on the mountain was built in 742 AD (the first year of the Tianbao era). It is said that the monk Fachin came here to preach and was bestowed the title ‘National First Zen Master.’ At its peak, the temple complex was filled with pavilions and halls, housing a community of 3,000 monks. The famous tea, fine spring water, and boiled bamboo shoots are known as the three ‘treasures’ of Jing Mountain.

Jing Mountain cloud and mist tea is a nationally renowned tea, enjoyed both domestically and internationally.

Furthermore, Jing Mountain has a long-standing history of friendship with Japan, being the ancestral temple of the Japanese Rinzai sect, and the Japanese ‘tea ceremony’ also originates from the ‘Jingshan Tea Banquet.’ The Shuangxi area in the northeast of Jing Mountain also produces high-quality tea. It is said that the Tang Dynasty tea god Lu Yu once visited here to understand the tea culture and wrote the ‘Tea Classic,’ leaving behind Lu Yu Spring. The mountain is open to visitors year-round from 07:30 to 17:00.
