Jing’an Villa is a new-style lilong residential complex in Shanghai. It was invested and built by developer Zhang Tanru in 1932. This place was once the base of the Chaozhou Guild Hall and had stables. It was a place where the British raised horses. Celebrities such as Cai Yuanpei, Kong Xiangxi, and Yu Youren once lived here. Except for one building in the area that belongs to a general historical building, the rest are all historical protected buildings.

Here can be said to be a microcosm of Shanghai’s residential buildings and has certain representativeness. Now, 183 houses are preserved here. After decades of changes, the extravagance of the past has long faded here. Each household on the first floor has a patio of about ten square meters. When looking up at the sky, you will also see well-preserved wall reliefs, small western-style balconies, and black cast iron window mullions.

The spacious public space between buildings is lush with greenery. These are exactly the ideal living scenes for cafes, galleries, etc. Coffee, milk tea and small wontons allow tourists to feel the sentiment of old Shanghai while tasting. Open all day throughout the year.
