Although Shanghai is a coastal city, it has very few beaches. Jinshan City Beach, as the first coastal 4A-level scenic spot in Shanghai, may not offer the same stunning sea views as Hainan, but it fulfills the desire of Shanghai residents who live by the sea to have a beach. Moreover, the beach is equipped with numerous recreational facilities, attracting many tourists to splash in the water during the hot summer months. This is a coastal area enclosed by a sea wall; outside the wall lies the yellow Hangzhou Bay, while inside, the blue seawater has been artificially purified. Standing on the beach, the distant Jinshan Island is clearly visible. You can pay to take an electric cart to go around the sea wall and observe the difference between Hangzhou Bay and the purified seawater.
At the seaside bathing area, you can play in the sand, swim in the sea, fish, and gaze at the sea under a parasol, or rent a set of parasols that include an umbrella, a table, and four chairs. You can also participate in various water sports, such as speedboats, sailing, and water bicycles. There are also many beach entertainment options, such as beach motorcycles and small bungee jumping for children. In addition to the usual beach entertainment, Jinshan City Beach often hosts various events, such as the ‘Memory of Shanghai’ International Sand Sculpture Exhibition and the International Music Fireworks Festival.
