Jiulong Lake Tourism Area is a tourist resort located on the north bank of Zhenhai Jiulong Lake (formerly known as Shilukou Reservoir). Visitors can take a boat to Monkey Island to observe monkeys, hike in Jiulongyuan to see waterfalls, and enjoy barbecue and farmhouse cuisine in Hengxi Village while admiring the lake and mountain scenery, making it an ideal place for weekend leisure travel.
The scenic area itself is a large open space, and there is no need to purchase a ticket if one does not visit the paid Jiulongyuan and Monkey Island. The so-called ‘scenic area pass’ includes Monkey Island (with boat ride), Jiulongyuan, and the sightseeing bus fare between Monkey Island and Jiulongyuan. The main entrance is near the boat dock leading to Monkey Island on the east side, while Jiulongyuan is located about 6 kilometers to the west. Due to the distance between the two, walking can be time-consuming and laborious. On weekdays, one can drive into the scenic area to reach Jiulongyuan and purchase tickets for this attraction only. However, during peak tourist times, private vehicles may be restricted, and it is recommended to buy the scenic area pass directly at the visitor center and take the sightseeing bus to tour the area. Upon entering the scenic area, one first takes a boat from the boat dock to Monkey Island in the lake. The island is not large, and one can quickly walk around following the trails. There are not many wild monkeys on the island, with others kept in cages. However, the boat ride is a great experience, and the scenery on Jiulong Lake is spectacular. Near the dock on land, there is an amusement park and a sliding field where one can pay to enjoy various entertainment activities. After playing, take the sightseeing bus to Xiangshan Temple and Jiulongyuan to the west. Xiangshan Temple is located on the hillside, backed by Dapeng Mountain and facing Jiulong Lake. The temple itself has a history of over a thousand years. However, the buildings seen today are recent reconstructions and are quite impressive. There are not many visitors to the temple, and one can burn incense and pray for blessings in front of the Yuantong Hall. Continuing westward to Jiulongyuan Scenic Area, the main attractions are waterfalls and streams. The air in the mountains is fresh, and the paths are not difficult to walk. There are numerous waterfalls and streams along the way. Hiking along the trails, breathing in the fresh air, until returning from Shang and Xia Yaochi. This place is not far from Hengxi Village, where there are many barbecue and farmhouse dining options. It is a concentrated area for food and accommodation nearby, with reasonable prices. Local farmhouses generally do not provide accommodation, with hotels being the main option. If one wishes to stay closer to the attractions, Jiulong Mountain Villa is a choice, while Jiulong Lake Kaiyuan Resort is a bit further away but offers better services and facilities, albeit at a higher price.
