The main cave of Jiushan Cave in the east-west direction is 1,472 meters long. The side cave is connected to the Bat Cave in Beishan Mountain, with a length of about 4,000 meters. It is praised by experts as the first cave in northern Jiangsu. Its characteristics are deep, large, dangerous, strange and ancient. The whole cave is divided into five major scenic areas: Tiger Occupying Dragon Coiling, Picking Stars and Catching the Moon, Deep Canyon, Clear Stream and Green Shadow, and Boating on Yuxi River.
There are more than 20 important scenic spots. Among them, ‘Tiger Occupying Dragon Coiling’ is the main area where Wang Weizhong prepared for war and stationed troops. ‘Picking Stars and Catching the Moon’ is the scenic area where the ancients said ‘there are many stones in the shape of utensils’. The latter three scenic areas are tortuous and circling with infinite mysteries. Before development, no predecessors had set foot in them. Jiushan Cave has a geological history of 500 million years and is a karst cave. As early as more than 1,500 years ago, it was recorded in ‘Commentary on the Water Classic’. In the Tang Dynasty, many people entered the cave to explore the wonders. According to ‘Records of Haoliang’ in the Southern Song Dynasty: ‘The water in the cave flows continuously. There are many stones in the shape of utensils. There are many stone inscriptions of poems by people in the Tang Dynasty on the left and right. In the deep cliff, there are stone images of Avalokitesvara and old people.’ Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:00 to 17:00.
