Jiuxi Yanshu is nestled among the mountains to the west of West Lake. It is formed by the confluence of numerous streams into a ‘Y’ shaped ravine. The term ‘Jiuxi Yanshu’ refers to the picturesque scenery created by the mist rising from the forests on the nearby Baguo Mountain after the rain, enveloping the valley in a mystical haze. The entire length of Jiuxi is approximately 5.5 kilometers, lined with lush trees and vast tea plantations. Strolling leisurely along the shaded paths by the stream gives one the sensation of being in a painting, a truly enjoyable experience.
It is also a popular destination for family outings, especially during warm weather when many adults and children can be seen playing in the water by the stream. Stepping into the ankle-deep stream with sandals on, one feels a refreshing coolness permeate the body. Jiuxi Yanshu has three entrances: Longjing Village to the upper left of the ‘Y’, Yangmeiling (near Manlong Guiyu) to the upper right, and Jiuxi Road below. The central convergence point, known as ‘Stream within Streams’, is the heart of Jiuxi, where Jiuxi Yanshu Park, Li’an Temple, waterfalls, and other attractions are concentrated. Of course, there is also the large stone inscribed with ‘Jiuxi Yanshu’, where many tourists take photos.

The three pedestrian routes are relatively easy to walk and one can choose their own way in and out: Jiuxi Road to Stream within Streams is the most traveled because of its convenient transportation and well-paved road. Longjing Village to Stream within Streams is a flat, slope-free stone path, very quiet, with many small tea houses along the way in Longjing Village where one can sit and enjoy Longjing tea. Yangmeiling to Stream within Streams is a treeless path, making it an uphill stone path that is more difficult to walk. However, there is a small path near Li’an Temple on this route that leads to Hu Pu, and Yangmeiling is also a place to enjoy tea. The recommended route is Jiuxi Road to Stream within Streams to Longjing Village.
