Kunshan Library laid the foundation for the construction of a new building in July 2003, which was a key practical project for Kunshan in 2004. The new building is located in a prime area within the city and is one of the more advanced public libraries among county-level cities in China. It was completed on January 28, 2005, covering an area of about 12,000 square meters, with a construction area of about 18,600 square meters, costing over 100 million yuan. The building has five floors and employs more than 80 professional technical personnel, with over 70% of the staff holding college degrees or above. In December 2018, it was announced as a Reading Demonstration Base by the Library Society of China. The library is open all year round from 9:00 to 21:00.
