The Bai Dai Xiao Lou, also known as the recording site of ‘The March of the Volunteers’, was constructed in 1921. This residence, characterized by its red-tiled roof and red brick exterior, is popularly referred to as ‘La Villa Rouge’ in Shanghai. Initially owned by two French merchants, it was later acquired by the French Pathé Records Company (EMI) in the 1930s. In 1934, Nie Er, a prominent musician, served as the head of the music department for the company. The villa is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and closed all day on Mondays. Please note that the specific operating status is subject to the day’s opening conditions.
