Laoshan National Forest Park is located in the central part of Laoshan Forest Farm in Pukou District, on the north bank of the Yangtze River in Nanjing, spanning across the territory of Pukou District. It is known as the ‘Green Lung of Nanjing, Pearl of the North Bank’. With a forest coverage rate of over 80%, it serves as the ‘Green Lung’ of Jinling. The natural landscape of Laoshan is renowned for its ‘four wonders’: forests, springs, rocks, and caves, characterized by layered peaks and ravishing scenery. The high peaks are perilously beautiful, the ridges undulate, the lush forests and bamboos exude emerald green, and the green mountains and clear waters are delightful. The winding paths lead to historical visits, and the meditation rooms offer insights into Buddhism and sutras. The park integrates natural and cultural landscapes, including temples, tombs, springs, and caves. Laoshan’s ‘Lion Ridge’ has been listed as one of the forty-eight scenic spots of Jinling since the early Qing Dynasty.
The Eagle Mountain Scenic Area, located in the middle of Laoshan National Forest Park, is traversed by the Jiangpu Forest Avenue, and is adjacent to the Pearl Spring Scenic Area. The area boasts layered peaks with nearly a hundred large and small peaks, with an average altitude of 200 meters, and the highest peak, Dasi Mountain, stands at 442 meters. Ancient trees tower, and bamboo forests stand tall, making the scenery pleasant. The Eagle Mountain Observation Tower, built in 1988, is a five-story fenced hexagonal lookout tower about 20 meters high, located at the top of Eagle Mountain at an altitude of 326 meters. Initially, it was mainly used for forest fire lookout, but with the development of forest tourism, it is now primarily used for sightseeing. Standing on the tower, you can see Xiangshan in Pukou directly in front of you, which is to the south of your location, the mountain to the right is called Mian Zi Mountain, and the mountain to the left is Zhong Yi Zi Mountain. The peaks to the left in sequence are Mao Zi Mountain, Da Yi Zi Mountain, and Hei Shi Mountain. You can also overlook the ancient city of Jinling and the colors of the Yangtze River, enjoy the full view of Laoshan, the rural scenery; watch birds fly, and look up to see eagles spread their wings.
