Leifeng Pagoda, also known as ‘Huangfei Pagoda’, is located on Leifeng Hill on the south bank of the West Lake at Sunset Hill. Many people’s ‘Leifeng Pagoda complex’ stems from the legend of Lady White Snake. Although the old pagoda collapsed in 1924, the current one is newly built on the original tower foundation and is equipped with elevators and air conditioners. However, this does not prevent you from coming here to search for the traces of Lady White Snake.
Highlights of the scenic area: The Leifeng Pagoda itself is a major highlight of the entire scenic area. The newly built Leifeng Pagoda is more like a museum. There are a total of five floors from the base up. After ticket checking, take the elevator first (of course, you can also climb the adjacent stairs) to the tower foundation ruins. Here, you can see the dilapidated base of the old tower surrounded by glass. The ground inside is full of small change, which can also be considered a scene of Leifeng Pagoda. On this floor, there is also an exhibition of cultural relics unearthed from the underground palace. An Ashoka Pagoda is extremely exquisite. Going up further, you come to the bottom floor of the tower. On this floor, a large Dongyang woodcarving mural ‘The Legend of the White Snake’ is exhibited, which is very detailed. From here, continue to go up to officially start climbing the tower. There are walking stairs and escalators inside. Most of the time, you need to line up. Admire the panoramic view of the West Lake from the tower: Each floor of the tower displays some poems and murals, but most people climb the tower to enjoy the view. The view from a high place of Leifeng Pagoda is very good. You can not only see the panoramic view of the West Lake but also overlook the entire view of Jingci Temple on the opposite side. Especially at night, the lights along the West Lake outline the entire contour of the West Lake, and the scenery is intoxicating. Other landscapes: In addition to Leifeng Pagoda, there are also small scenic spots such as Sunset Pavilion, Miaoyin Platform, and Release Pond in the scenic area. Among them, in the release pond in front of the tower, there is a huge rockery stone covered with released land tortoises. In the Buddha Relic Hall, you can see the Buddha’s snail bun relic.
