Li Keran (1907-1989), a native of Xuzhou, was an outstanding modern art educator and master of traditional Chinese painting in China. The former residence of Li Keran is composed of ten parts, including a display room of his life achievements and an art work display room. Here, one can not only overview the master’s artistic journey but also appreciate his extensive knowledge and profound artistic accomplishments.
The former residence features a traditional Chinese courtyard structure. On the main wall of the south room hangs Li Keran’s masterpiece, the large-scale painting ‘Mount Huangshan Renzi Waterfall’, flanked by his early living quarters. On the west wall, there is an inscription by Li Keran, ‘Longing to Tie the Sun with a Long Rope’, a phrase from Qi Baishi’s seal script. The interior furnishings are simple and elegant, exuding an antique charm, much like the old days.
The north and west rooms serve as the exhibition rooms for his life achievements, where visitors can trace Li Keran’s artistic path and creative thoughts through a wealth of textual and pictorial materials, as well as his patriotic and people-loving spirit.
