Lianghuang Mountain, historically known as ‘Tongbai Mountain’, is located in Qiandong Ancient Town, Ninghai County. It was named after Emperor Xuan of the Liang Dynasty who sought refuge here during the Hou Jing Rebellion in the Southern and Northern Dynasties period. Standing at an elevation of 768 meters, Lianghuang Mountain boasts steep terrain, peculiar peaks, unique rocks, deep valleys, and serene streams, with a lush green landscape that captivates the eyes and a beauty that is truly breathtaking. Many literary figures have left their poetry and footprints here, and since the Song Dynasty, it has been recognized as one of the famous mountains in the Jiangnan region. It is the starting point of Xu Xiake’s Travel Notes, the birthplace of Buddhism and Taoism in Jiangnan, a dreamlike Peach Blossom Spring, and a perfect blend of brilliant historical culture and unique natural scenery. Lianghuang Temple (originally named Chongfu Temple) is located at the southern foot of Lianghuang Mountain and was built during the Tang Wude years (618-626 AD), later renamed ‘Gongtai Academy’ in the 11th year of the Tongzhi era (1872 AD). The ancient Liangwang Temple, which once consisted of only three small rooms, is currently under expansion by the abbot Yuanzhong, who is constructing a grand Mahavira Hall and other temple buildings. Behind the temple, there are scenic spots such as Liangyuan Pond, Sutra Worship Platform, and Stone Cauldron. Opening hours are from 08:30 to 17:00 all year round.
