Previously known as ‘Xinpu Street’ or ‘Xinpu Avenue’, Minzhu Road Old Street is the birthplace of Xinpu District in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province, and one of the four old streets that have witnessed the historical development and changes of Lianyungang City. In the 1920s and 1930s, this area was bustling with commerce and traffic, earning the nickname ‘Little Shanghai’ of Northern Jiangsu by the people of that time.
Not far to the north, a smaller street market also formed, which was referred to as ‘Hou Street’ (now Jianguo Road) due to its location north of the main street. However, with the development of the main urban area and the expansion of Xinpu’s urban scale, urban industry and commerce began to move eastward and southward. A century has passed, and time has washed away the former splendor of this road, leaving only an old alley, with the former bustling prosperity gradually falling silent. In April 2013, the street underwent an upgrade and renovation, and the Yanhe Lane Historical and Cultural District was constructed to excavate the city’s cultural connotations. With the theme of ‘Xinpu Impression’, the old streets of Xinpu with historical and cultural significance have been revitalized. The street is open all year round and is accessible 24/7, with specific business hours subject to the daily opening status.Must Read
