Lihu Park is located at the north end of the Lihu Bridge, leaning on the bridge and facing the lake, offering a panoramic view of the scenery. It covers an area of 15.8 hectares and is an important node in the Lihu scenic belt. The park began construction in March 2004 and was opened to the public on the eve of the National Day of the same year.
During its design and construction, the park has integrated the strengths of traditional gardens and European-style parks to create a high-quality green space. It combines leisure and recreation, gathering activities, and commercial functions into one, forming a tourism and leisure center.
The park is skillfully arranged with four major landscapes, representing the ‘Charm of Spring,’ ‘Beauty of Summer,’ ‘Rhythm of Autumn,’ and ‘Solidity of Winter,’ showcasing the beauty of the Jiangnan region through seasonal plants. Surrounded by water, the park is adorned with twelve small bridges that enhance the water town charm.
Within the park, there is a garden called ‘Shiyuan,’ named after the historical legend of Fan Li and Xi Shi boating on Lihu Lake. The garden is embraced by lush forests and bamboos, surrounded by winding paths and quiet streams. A clear pool of water within the garden, resembling a moon mirror, opens up a heavenly realm.
The four pavilions, Liuyun, Tianyuan, Yuehong, and Qinghui, are positioned to face each other, creating a picturesque scene. The Shui Jing Lang, a water-encircled corridor, is arc-shaped and 286.7 meters long, blending Chinese and Western styles with a unique design. Inside the corridor, there are inscriptions of famous poems, paintings, and photographic works that praise Taihu Lake, highlighting the rich culture of Taihu and the long-standing civilization of the Five Lakes.
In front of the corridor, there is a pool of clear water with lotus and water lilies, standing tall and emitting a pleasant fragrance. The ‘Taihu Star,’ a water-based Ferris wheel, stands 115 meters high by the lakeside of the park. Riding the Wuxi Lihu Ferris wheel, visitors can enjoy the views of the Taihu Fairy Island, Luting Mountain, and other Taihu landscapes, as well as the city of Wuxi. At night, the Ferris wheel’s electronic decorations create beautiful scenes.
This water-based Ferris wheel and the Lihu Bridge together form the iconic structure of Wuxi’s lakeside city and become the spectacular gateway to the Taihu New City CBD. The park is open all year round, 24 hours a day.
