LiKeng is located on the north line of Wuyuan, known for its scholarly atmosphere and numerous historical figures. The rows of Ming and Qing Dynasty Hui-style ancient residences add a cultural depth to the village. It is less commercialized and less disturbed by tourists. In spring, when the rapeseed flowers bloom, the water surrounds the ancient village, and the old buildings contrast with the golden fields, making it perfect for photography and sketching.
LiKeng is a village where Ming and Qing Dynasty official residences and civilian houses are more concentrated. Walking into the village, along the stone path beside the stream, you can see many old houses on both sides. The mansions and ancestral halls of officials from the Ming and Qing Dynasties are mostly exquisitely built, including the famous ‘Tian Guan Shang Qing’ of Yu Maoheng, the Minister of Personnel during the Tianqi period of the Ming Dynasty, ‘Shang Shu Di’ of Yu Maoxue, the Minister of Works during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, ‘Si Ma Di’ of Yu Weishu, the Director of the Ministry of War, and ‘Yi Yu Tang’ of Yu Xianhui, a tea merchant during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. There are also garden-style ‘Yunxi Villa’, garden-style architecture ‘Hua Ting’, and the legendary ‘Jin Jia Jing’. There are many alleys in LiKeng, and there are signs next to many buildings in the village, so it is basically impossible to get lost. If there is no guide, you can ask the local villagers. The village also has many distilleries such as Tao Hua Xue, Zhu Ye Qing, Nu Er Hong, and Lu Cha Mei Zi, all of which are brewed by the villagers themselves, and it is worth tasting. Due to the separate ticket fee for LiKeng, there are relatively fewer tourists, and many art school students choose to sketch here. Rows of drawing boards on both sides of the river have also become a unique scenery of LiKeng. There are many farmhouse inns for accommodation in LiKeng, and the famous Yunxi Villa, built during the Daoguang period, was originally a tea merchant’s mansion and has now been converted into an inn with a good environment and high cost performance.
