Linglong Mountain stands at an elevation of 353 meters. Despite its modest height, it boasts two undulating peaks that rise into the sky, with ancient trails winding along the streams. Although the mountain is not large, it features springs, waterfalls, trees, temples, pavilions, cliff inscriptions, and cultural relics. Known for its ‘exquisite and delicate’ landscape, Linglong Mountain may not have the perilous cliffs of Yellow Mountain or the grandeur of Mount Tai, yet it possesses a unique beauty characterized by its ‘delicate and transparent’ features and ‘lush forests with secluded paths’.
With a long history and rich cultural connotations, Linglong Mountain has inspired many beautiful poems and touching legends. Historical figures such as Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, and Buddha Yin have visited multiple times, leaving behind numerous poems and enchanting tales. Along the trails, cultural relics are visible everywhere. Notably, the great Northern Song Dynasty literati Su Dongpo, after getting drunk and composing a poem on the ‘Drunken Sleep Stone’, fell asleep against it, a story widely circulated. His close female friend, the talented courtesan Qin Cao from the Northern Song Dynasty, was also guided by Su Dongpo to become a nun on Linglong Mountain, and her tomb remains well-preserved here to this day. The cliffs along the way are covered with cliff inscriptions dating back to the Southern Song Dynasty. The Wolong Ancient Temple, built in the late Qing Dynasty, is nestled among the dense woods, with a continuous flow of smoke from the incense. On the temple fairs of the 19th of February, June, and September, believers from all directions come to Linglong Mountain to light incense and make wishes for safety. The entire mountain is open to visitors from 09:00 to 17:00 all year round.Linglong Mountain
