Xiangfu Zen Temple is located in the serene area at the southern foot of Qinlv Peak in Maji Mountain, Taihu Lake, Wuxi City. It was first established during the Tang Dynasty, with the phrase ‘the ancients donated wasteland to build a temple at the site of Lingshan’, and after several renovations through the Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties, it has become a grand scale, reaching the state of ‘the lotus flower blooms in the Western Regions, and the Buddhist Dharma is performed in the superior Zen’. To the south of the Mahavira Hall in Xiangfu Zen Temple, on the left side of the bell tower, hangs a large bronze bell, known as the ‘First Bell of the South of the Yangtze River’. The term ‘First Bell’ refers to the weight and diameter of the bell. The bell weighs 12.8 tons, with a lower mouth diameter of 2.5 meters and a total height of 3.5 meters. It is named ‘Xiangfu Zen Bell’ and is the largest bronze bell in the Jiangnan area to date. The ‘Xiangfu Zen Bell’ was cast by the Wuhu Shipbuilding Factory in Anhui and is one of the largest bells cast since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Its sound can last for up to three minutes. For specific opening times, please consult the scenic area.
