Lion Mountain is adjacent to the Yangtze River and faces the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge. It covers an area of 14 hectares and has a circumference of 2 kilometers. As early as the late Qing Dynasty, it had the reputation of ‘Magnificent View of Lion Ridge’ and was known as one of the forty-eight scenic spots in Jinling. The completion of Yuejiang Tower on the mountain top ended the history of more than 600 years of ‘having records but no tower’. Lion Mountain has numerous cultural landscapes and historical relics. The Lion Mountain Scenic Area takes Lion Mountain as the center and includes a series of cultural landscapes on the mountain top, slopes, foothills and their surroundings. Specifically, taking ‘Yuejiang Tower’ as the main symbol, on the mountain top there are Sun Yat-sen’s Riverside Viewing Pavilion, ancient battery ruins, and a resort; on the slopes there are General Xu Da’s Temple, Wanxian Pavilion, and the stele forest with the character ‘lion’; at the foothills there are Jinghai Temple, Sansu Rock, Yifeng Gate and the stele of Tianfei Palace; nearby there are also Hydrangea Park, Little Peach Garden, Memorial Hall of the Victory of Crossing the Yangtze River, mountains, the ruins of Jiangnan Naval Academy, the former residence of Sun Jinchuan, and the place where the Taiping Army broke through the city. Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:30 to 17:30. Admission stops at 17:00.
