Liuhe, historically known as Liujia Port, is located on the south bank of the Yangtze River estuary. As early as the Yuan Dynasty, it was renowned as the ‘Pier of Six Countries’. The Ming Dynasty navigator, Zheng He, embarked on his voyages to the Western Seas from Liuhe. Today, Liuhe faces Chongming to the east, neighbors Shanghai to the south, connects to Suzhou to the west, and is adjacent to the under-construction COSCO International City to the north.
It enjoys convenient transportation, prosperous commerce, and is a place of outstanding talents and cultural heritage. It is the birthplace of notable figures such as Dr. Wu Jianxiong, a world-renowned physicist, and Master Zhu Qianzhan, a master of traditional Chinese painting.
