Originally named ‘Hu Shuang Pavilion’ and also known as ‘Yancheng Lotus Leaf Pavilion’. Because the top of the pavilion is in the shape of an inverted lotus leaf, people are accustomed to calling it ‘Lotus Leaf Pavilion’. The origin is as follows: In the late 1930s, there was a wealthy gentry named Mei Shibin in Funing County, Jiangsu Province. His son died. To continue the family line, he took Zhang and Cao as concubines. After Mei died, Zhang and Cao committed suicide by taking poison and died for their husbands. Mei’s nephew, Pinshan, spent ten years building the Lotus Leaf Pavilion. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. Relevant departments of the Funing County government, in view of their emphasis on historical, cultural and artistic aspects, rebuilt the Lotus Leaf Pavilion in 2010 from the perspectives of pavilion culture and tourism culture.
