Loushi Park is located on Banbian Street in Hexian County. It was built by Liu Yuxi, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, when he served as the governor of Hezhou. He wrote ‘Ode to a Humble Room’: ‘A mountain needn’t be high; it is famous so long as there is a deity. A lake needn’t be deep; it has supernatural power so long as there is a dragon. This is a humble room, yet it is fragrant because of my virtue.

..’. The original stele inscription written by Liu Gongquan has been destroyed. The current inscription is imitated in Liu style by Meng Fanqing, a calligrapher from Anhui Province. There were buildings such as ‘Tisentang Tower’, ‘Half Moon Pond’, ‘Wanhua Valley’, ‘Wuhe Pavilion’, ‘Zhanchen Pavilion’, ‘Xushan Pavilion’, ‘Xia’ou Pavilion’, ‘Linliu Pavilion’, ‘Yingxun Pavilion’, ‘Junyan Pavilion’, and ‘Jiangshan Yilan Pavilion’, all of which were destroyed in wars.

In 1986, funds were allocated by the province and the county for renovation, and a hollow flower wall was built. The two characters ‘humble room’ on the gate are inscribed by poet Zang Kejia. ‘Ode to a Humble Room’ is imitated in Liu style by Meng Fanqing, a calligrapher from Anhui Province, and engraved on a stele. In the main hall of the humble room, there is a full-length standing statue of Liu Yuxi.

Above it hangs a horizontal plaque inscribed with ‘Promote Virtuous and Capable Officials’. Around it are couplets and scrolls written by famous calligraphers from across the country and the province, such as Zhang Kaifan, Fang Shaowu, Situ Yue, Ge Jieping, Xiao Lao, Yao Duo, Wen Yonghua, and Jiang Bo, as well as a seal scroll by epigrapher Ge Xuguang. Beside the door of the corridor in the main room are the couplets ‘Moss marks are green on the steps; grass color enters the curtain, making it green’.

On the wooden pillars on both sides are the couplets ‘A thousand sails pass by the side of a sunken ship; ten thousand trees spring up in front of a sick tree’. In 1988, the county invested nearly one million yuan to build a ‘Loushi Park’ in the area of ‘Xianshan Mountain’ and ‘Longchi Pool’ of the humble room. Covering an area of more than 50 mu, there are Jiangshan Yilan Pavilion, Wangjiang Pavilion, and Immortal Cave on the mountain.

In the pool, there are Linliu Pavilion, Luxian Bridge, etc. Around it, more than 300 meters of imitation Qing Dynasty carved flower walls are built. The main entrance faces north and is in the form of an archway. The plaque of ‘Loushi Park’ is inscribed by Zhang Kai, a famous calligrapher from Anhui Province. In 1986, the humble room was approved as a provincial key cultural relic protection unit by the provincial people’s government.

It is open all year round from 8:00 to 21:00.
