Upon arrival, one can see the name of the museum on the gable wall. Inside, there is an inner garden called ‘Baicao Garden’, which is lush with vegetation, with He Shouwu climbing the walls, a well, and a traditional Chinese boat called ‘Wupeng boat’. Both the well and the Wupeng boat originate from Lu Xun’s hometown, Shaoxing.

The first floor of the memorial hall features the ‘Chaohu Library’ for cultural celebrities and the ‘Benyuan Art Garden’ for special exhibitions, which often host various themed cultural exhibitions. The second floor is the main exhibition area, displaying the life of Lu Xun, with artifacts collected over the years and donated by his wife Xu Guangping and his friends.

You can see Mr. Lu Xun’s manuscripts, clothing, and daily necessities, as well as many precious photographs, providing a detailed visual and textual understanding of his life and deeds. The memorial hall also houses a plaster cast of Lu Xun’s face, which is worth seeing. It was made by a Japanese friend on the day of his death, with the mustache and eyebrows being the only original items left from his body.

In addition, the museum also features scenes from the Neishan Bookstore and various editions of Lu Xun’s works. Lu Xun’s tomb is located in the adjacent Lu Xun Park, which visitors can pay their respects to. The memorial hall is adjacent to Tian’ai Road and Shanyin Road, two tree-lined streets filled with romance and artistic atmosphere, which are also worth a stroll.

The Lu Xun Residence on Shanyin Road, where Lu Xun lived in Shanghai, is only a 7-minute walk away and can be visited en route.

Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00; the museum is closed on Mondays.
