Originally named Hongkou Park, Luxun Park was a place where Mr. Lu Xun often came for walks. In 1956, on the eve of the 20th anniversary of Lu Xun’s death, Lu Xun’s tomb was built in Hongkou Park. After its completion, Lu Xun’s coffin was grandly relocated and buried here from the International Cemetery in the western suburbs. There is a seated statue of Lu Xun on the lawn in front of the tomb. His face is serene and his eyes are deep and spirited.

There is an inscription on the tombstone: ‘Tomb of Mr. Lu Xun’. Under the tombstone is placed the base coffin of Lu Xun’s coffin, which is paved with smooth granite. In addition, the park also has commemorative scenic spots such as Lu Xun Memorial Pavilion and Lu Xun Memorial Hall. There are also natural scenic spots such as Cherry Blossom Garden, Plum Pavilion, and Plum Garden. It integrates commemoration and admiration, cultural entertainment, and scenic tours.

It has even become an important place for nearby elderly people and children to exercise, relax, and go for an outing. Plum blossoms are mainly concentrated in the Plum Garden of Luxun Park and the green space at Exit 1 of Line 8. They are mainly varieties such as Gongfen, Mei Ren Mei, and Green Calyx. Starting from February every year, nearly a hundred plants in the whole park open successively, adding a touch of beauty to the Spring Festival.

Nearly a thousand Somei Yoshino cherry trees are planted in the park. The flowering period is in mid-to-late March. The flowers bloom before the leaves. The flowers have five petals. At first, they are light red and gradually turn white. The amount of blooming is large and the ornamental value is extremely high. Nowadays, after the new renovation of Luxun Park, the style of an ‘English park’ has been restored, and a new ‘lake center island’ has been developed.

The famous landscape in the park, Shanghai’s first sand-filtered water drinking fountain built in 1929, is also open to tourists. Opening hours: Open all year round from 05:00 to 21:00.
