During the May Day holiday, where did you all go? A quick look at WeChat Moments reveals that almost half of the people were at ‘Shanghai Songcheng’. Having previously visited Hangzhou Songcheng, Xi’an Songcheng, and Yichun Songcheng, each visit brought new surprises. I didn’t expect Shanghai Songcheng to open just before May Day, so I deliberately chose the last day of the holiday to join the trend and visit it!

Despite it being the last day, Shanghai Songcheng was extremely popular. The ‘Eternal Love’ series is one of the most popular attractions at Songcheng and is considered one of the must-see performances in a lifetime. ‘Shanghai Eternal Love’ is suitable for all ages and consists of five chapters: ‘Origins of the Shen Household’, ‘1912’, ‘Modern Times’, ‘Shanghai Locals’, and ‘Wind from the Sea’. Each chapter uses actors’ performances and high-tech elements like sound, light, electricity, and film to vividly and interestingly tell the history to the audience.
In addition to ‘Shanghai Eternal Love’, families with children can enjoy the family show ‘WA! Dinosaur’, where they can learn about dinosaurs up close, blending education with entertainment. For those visiting with parents, I recommend ‘The Great Earthquake’, a 5D realistic experience that will make you cherish the good life even more.
Speaking of Shanghai Songcheng, its unique geographical location is worth mentioning. The visit was for one day in May, and the average cost per person was 1000 Yuan. I went with friends and we visited Shanghai, Shanghai Local Expo Park, and Huangpu River. This trip was posted on 2021-05-08 at 13:52.It is located within the Shanghai World Expo Park, next to the Huangpu River. Photography enthusiasts are advised to visit the seventh-floor rooftop, where there is a magical Hobbit house. Standing at the entrance, everyone is a ‘giant’, and the photos taken there are excellent! Inside the house, the scenes of Hobbit life are recreated, with the walls painted with a very dreamy animation scene, as if entering another time and space.
Above the cliff theater, ballet dancers are enthusiastically displaying their elegant postures, while underfoot is transparent high-altitude glass. Tourists with a fear of heights avoid this, but the dancers are calm and graceful on the high altitude, with the continuous Huangpu River behind them. Enjoying the river views on both sides while watching the exciting high-altitude ballet is a very pleasant experience!
The Sky Market sells a variety of exotic decorations and trinkets, each one beautiful! Especially the chandeliers! They give a feeling of entering a fairy tale world, very dreamy! If I had money, I would definitely take them all home! Hahaha~
By the way, there are also crystal ball performances here. The young man with eight-pack abs holds a crystal ball in his hand, and under the accompaniment of music, the crystal ball seems to be enchanted and dances gracefully in his hands. After the performances, both adults and children rush to experience the charm of the crystal balls.
It is highly recommended for young ladies to try on traditional cheongsams and have their hair styled to transform into a Shanghai socialite in an instant! Various scenes offer different flavors for photography. One entire floor is decorated in the style of old Shanghai, filled with nostalgic items from childhood that will evoke memories. It’s a trip down memory lane, with many items that even those born in the 1990s have never seen. If you observe from a corner, you’ll notice an interesting phenomenon: mothers often stand in front of exhibits with their children, telling stories from their own childhoods.
In addition to the indoor scenes, which are perfect for photography, outdoor performances are always packed with people. Whether it’s a grand show or various smaller performances, the atmosphere is always enlivened by the performers, drawing you in to interact and enjoy the show with them.
Among the many exciting performances and photo-friendly scenes, one highly recommended experience is the ‘Passionate Samba’ dinner show. This stands out as the only dinner show among the many Songchengs I’ve visited and is a must-try experience. As the name suggests, the dinner show allows you to enjoy a performance while dining. I’ve experienced a similar event in another scenic area in Jiangsu, but the experience was nowhere near as good as Songcheng’s.
Upon entering the venue, you are immediately drawn to the exotic decorations. Songcheng’s dinner show is a grand ‘South American feast’ held in Theater 5. Due to its popularity, it’s essential to purchase tickets in advance. The dining area is decorated with a strong South American flavor, with large tables neatly arranged on both sides of the stage. Fluorescent paintings on the walls and dazzling lights quickly put you in the mood for a night of lively entertainment and dining. As the music starts, the performance officially begins! Foreign performers in high heels launch into an exciting tap dance, their ever-changing steps creating a beautiful ‘musical piece’ that syncs perfectly with the beat. Simultaneously, elegantly dressed waitresses serve dishes while dancing, adding another layer of elegance to the event. The menu is a treat for the palate, featuring golden whole wheat bread, Salvadoran tuna and vegetable salad, the Rio Tropical BBQ platter, and finally, dessert. Each dish is exquisite and delicious, making it a triple feast for the eyes, ears, and taste buds.
Halfway through the meal, the chef surprises the audience by pushing a cart onto the stage, demonstrating that even the servers are hiding their talents and bringing unexpected delights. At the end of the dinner, grass skirt-clad dancers interact enthusiastically with the audience, inviting ‘lucky ones’ to dance on stage with them. Watch as children dance under the guidance of the performers with a certain flair!
Lastly, a reminder: Songcheng hosts many performances every day, but the schedule is not fixed. It’s advisable to inquire about the performance schedule upon entering the park to avoid missing any exciting shows. For those planning to visit, here are the details:
