May Fourth Square is located in the southeast coastal area of Qingdao city. The square features a fiery red sculpture symbolizing the spirit of Qingdao city, ‘May Wind’, which looks particularly beautiful under the illumination of lights at night.
During the summer, visitors can enjoy the sea views, gaze at the lighthouse and the sailing center across the bay filled with sailboats, and the sunset over the sea is also very beautiful.
May Fourth Square was built to commemorate the ‘May Fourth Movement’. The towering ‘wind’ sculpture, with its spiraling and rising shape, was erected to promote patriotism and inspire people to strive for strength. It often appears as a landmark of Qingdao in people’s vision.
Walking in the square, one might occasionally encounter street performers and wandering musicians showcasing their talents. During holidays, the square fountain and sea fountain may be open, and you can also stroll along the coast to the nearby Music Square to appreciate the creative sculptures.
The square is open all year round and accessible 24 hours a day.
