Meiqi Grand Theater enjoys a certain reputation both domestically and internationally. It is a comprehensive theater in Shanghai that mainly stages large-scale operas, ballets, and music and dance performances, and serves as a primary venue for cultural exchanges between China and other countries. Before and shortly after the liberation, the Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang and the world-renowned ballet master Ulanova both graced Meiqi with their performances of classic repertoires.
Meiqi Grand Theater is also an outstanding example of modern architecture in Shanghai. Its elegant and unique style integrates the essence of modern and classical architectural beauty. The entrance features a round giant tower with a majestic presence, a large crystal chandelier that shines brilliantly, two light fountains that emit a dazzling array of colors, bronze art sculptures with elegant shapes, and a grand and solemn audience rest hall that is visually rich and imposing.
The Meiqi Grand Theater is open to the public year-round from 09:00 to 19:00.
