The Meng Changjun Cemetery is located 1 kilometer south of Guanqiao Town, in the northeast corner of the ancient city of Xueguo. There was originally a large tomb mound like a small hill. According to historical records, it is the tomb of Tian Wen, prime minister of the State of Qi and Meng Changjun, and his father Tian Ying, Jingguo Jun. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, Yang Shoujing, a famous historical geographer, wrote in ‘Annotations to the Commentary on the Waterways Classic’: ‘Now there is still a tomb of a literary figure on the side of the city.
(Shoujing’s note: According to the ‘Annotations’ of the ‘Continued Han Annals’, the tomb of Meng Changjun is on the northeast side of the city gate facing inward. What Li Daoyuan said about there still being a tomb of a literary figure on the side of the city is directly obtained through personal observation. That is, Meng Changjun was enfeoffed in Xue and was buried there. Therefore, in the ‘Topography Annals’, there is the tomb of Meng Changjun in Xue. According to the ‘Comprehensive Gazetteer’, the tomb is 52 li south of Teng County. According to the ‘Annals of the Universe’, it is 50 li south of Teng County. There is no other different opinion. It is in the southeast of present-day Teng County.’ During the Warring States Period, Tian Ying, the youngest son of King Wei of Qi, served under his father and often led troops on expeditions. In the ninth year of King Xuan of Qi (312 BC), Tian Ying was appointed as the prime minister. In the third year of King Min of Qi (299 BC), he was enfeoffed in Xue. After Tian Ying passed away, his son Tian Wen inherited his father’s title and still lived in Xueyi, known as Lord Xue and also Meng Changjun. Meng Changjun is famous all over the world for his hospitality and support for scholars. He is good at employing people and widely recruits virtuous scholars from all over the world. He is willing to ruin his family fortune to treat guests generously. Therefore, virtuous people and scholars from all places came to join him one after another, and there were more than 3,000 guests under his door. Meng Changjun’s reputation is renowned all over the world and he is listed as one of the famous four gentlemen (Lord Pingyuan of Zhao, Lord Xinling of Wei, Lord Chunshen of Chu, and Lord Mengchang of Qi) in the Warring States Period. He was appointed as the prime minister by King Min of Qi. Now, more than two thousand years have passed, and the story of Meng Changjun is still a much-told tale. The tombs of Tian Wen and Tian Ying were rebuilt with steles by the government of Guanqiao Town in 1991. At the same time, a Lixian Hall was added to provide a place for tourists from all places to pay tribute to historical sages. The specific business hours and operating status are subject to the opening situation on that day.Meng Changjun Cemetery
