Mogan Mountain Scenic Area is located in Deqing County, northern Zhejiang. The mountain is not only covered with lush bamboo forests but also features over two hundred charming old villas, making it a secluded paradise. The rich natural and cultural landscapes, coupled with the significant influence of famous personalities, have made it a popular summer retreat in the Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai regions.
The scenic area is roughly divided into several parts: Wuling Village Scenic Area, Sword Pond Scenic Area, Luhua Dang Park, and Dakeng Scenic Area. Dakeng Scenic Area is slightly farther away and can be reached by car; it is particularly cool in the morning, making it suitable for a visit on the second day. The other scenic areas can be comfortably covered in a single day without too much effort.Starting from Yinshan Street, one can reach the Sword Pond by following the downhill path. This is where the waterfall groups of Mogan Mountain are located. Although the Sword Pond may be smaller than expected, the bamboo forests and waterfalls provide a refreshing coolness. By the pond stands a bronze statue of Gan Jiang and Mo Ye casting swords, which is a symbol of Mogan Mountain, and visitors often take photos here.
Luhua Dang Park can be reached by following the signs from the Sword Pond, and it takes about ten minutes to walk there. The park features a collection of steles, which calligraphy enthusiasts can appreciate. Further up the mountain is the Baiyun Mountain Pavilion, which consists of several beautiful old western-style villas. The nearby Sunrise Viewing Platform is an excellent spot to watch the sunrise, so consider waking up early on the second day to enjoy this spectacle.
Heading towards Wuling Village, one can arrive at the Songyue Villa, which was the official residence of Chiang Kai-shek. It is a two-story small villa with simple decoration, with the first floor used for receiving guests and the second floor for living quarters. Notably, there are many villas nearby, some of which appear much more grand than Songyue Villa and are well worth visiting.
If the weather is fine, one can continue down the mountain, passing by the Di Cui Tan to the Xuguang Terrace on the hillside. This location offers an excellent geographical position, with a panoramic view of the magnificent landscapes and bustling towns in front, and a distant view of the various villas on Mogan Mountain behind, making for a very pleasant scenery.
