Mogan Mountain Scenic Area is located in Deqing County, northern Zhejiang. The mountain is not only home to lush bamboo forests but also features over two hundred charming old villas, creating an idyllic retreat. Its rich natural and cultural landscapes, along with the significant influence of famous figures, make it a popular summer retreat in the Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai region. The scenic area is roughly divided into several parts: Wuling Village Scenic Area, Sword Pond Scenic Area, Reed Flower Park, and Dakeng Scenic Area. The Dakeng Scenic Area is slightly farther away and can be reached by car; it is particularly cool in the morning, making it a good place to visit on the second day. The other scenic areas can be comfortably covered in a single day.
Starting from Yinshan Street, one can reach the Sword Pond by walking downhill. This is where the waterfalls of Mogan Mountain are located. The Sword Pond might be smaller than expected, but the bamboo groves and waterfalls provide a refreshing coolness. There is a bronze statue by the pond depicting Gan Jiang and Mo Ye forging a sword, which is a symbol of Mogan Mountain. Tourists always take a photo here.
Reed Flower Park is accessible by following the signs uphill from the Sword Pond, and it takes about ten minutes to walk there. The park features a collection of steles, making it a must-visit for calligraphy enthusiasts. Further up the mountain is the White Cloud Pavilion, which consists of several beautiful old Western-style villas. The nearby Sunrise Viewing Platform is an excellent spot to watch the sunrise, so consider waking up early the next day to witness it.
Heading towards Wuling Village, one can reach the Songyue Residence, which was Chiang Kai-shek’s official residence. It is a two-story villa with simple decoration, with the first floor for receiving guests and the second floor for living quarters. Notably, there are many villas in the vicinity, some of which appear much grander than Songyue Residence and are worth visiting.
If the weather is fine, one can continue to walk down the mountain, passing by the Di Cui Pond to the Xuguang Platform on the hillside. This location offers an excellent geographical position, with a panoramic view of the magnificent landscapes and bustling towns in front, and a distant view of the diverse villas on Mogan Mountain behind, making for a very scenic spot.
