Mukeng Bamboo Sea is located 5 kilometers east of Hongcun. It has lush bamboo forests surrounding a small village. There are also tea gardens in the area. It is said that the movie ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ was filmed here. When visiting Hongcun, one can take a detour to this place.
The main tourist route of the scenic area is circular, divided into the West Sea (near the entrance of Hongcun), Mukeng Village, and the South Sea (near the entrance of Huangshan). Generally, visitors start from the West Sea, climb the viewing platform to appreciate the bamboo sea and Mukeng Village, then descend through Mukeng Village, and head south to the South Sea. There is a secluded valley in the South Sea, known as the Bamboo Monster City, where many bamboo-made monsters are placed to occasionally ‘scare’ tourists, which is quite entertaining. At the end of the journey, one can see Xiunü Lake, where the bamboos reflect off the emerald waters, presenting a very beautiful scenery.
Mukeng Bamboo Sea offers accommodation and farmhouse cuisine. If you are tired of the hustle and bustle of Hongcun, it is a good choice to experience a night here. The opening hours are from 07:30 to 18:00 all year round.
